These days, I would more often find myself in my den brooding, thinking about what I've gotten myself involved in, whether its worth it???, whether there would be an end to it?? Whether there would be a victor or vanquished (and who those would be) and if my life would ever be the same again???.
I never set out to be a Government critic or in other parlance 'activist', to wake up daily to social media having something new to complain about, (no power, no water, no roads, striking doctors, teachers etc), but hey nothing works in my country... I mean nothing
I like every other average Nigerian youth, could rather remain in my comfort zone and just echo the rhetoric of the disgruntled masses 'there's nothing we can do about what's happening in nigeria, the cabal in power is too strong' or 'why should I vote??? OUR VOTE DOESNT COUNT' or the most popular of them all 'Nigeria cannot get better'
The defining moment for me however came as I flipped through the pages of the 'AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MALCOM X'... I saw in clear terms how the idea of FREEDOM & RACIAL EQUALITY inspired the blacks of the time to stand up and fight to death what could be considered as one of the greatest ILLS committed by man against man 'RACISM'.
The realization of the fact that there is no monster big enough to conquer the WILL of a unified majority and the fact that 'the people should not be scared of their government, the Government should be scared of the people' gives me the undeniable conviction that things would CHANGE when we the youth come together to lend our hands, hearts and voices to the battle against BAD & CORRUPT LEADERSHIP.
I believe this realization should be shared by all youth.
If it could be done in Egypt and Tunisia, it is possible here in Nigeria... Our peaceful revolution starts with us VOTING and PROTECTING our VOTES.
For me, there can be no going back on the herculean task of returning Nigeria to the path of greatness. Belling this 'Cat' is the collective responsibility of ME and YOU.... It is for God & Country.
