Nigerian youth-BENDING THE WILL OF JONATHANS GOVERNMENT

This uprising would bring out the BEAST in us - Fela Anikulapo Kuti

From all indications, the stage is now set for the begining of a youth powered campaign against the proposed removal of government subsidy on petrol come January 2012. the proposed removal of subsidy would see the price of petrol go as high as N160.

The youth have decided to stage a protest walk at the Unity fountain fountain and GO ON HUNGER STRIKE on 11th November in a series of protests intended to bend the will of government.

The removal of subsidy is going to cause more strain on the already burdened masses and economy. the ripple effect on prices of goods and services would be unprecedented as prices of all products would sky rocket. this is highly inhuman for a 'government of the people' to even propose to go ahead with such a draconian policy in the face of the current prevailing rate of poverty among the people.

Governments removal of subsidy itself not being the problem, but the timing of the proposed removal and the obvious fact that the government has done nothing to cushion the effect of the removal on the entire populace but to leave it to the operation of free market forces.

Nigeria is the worlds sixth largest exporter of crude oil and probably the only producer of crude who cannot refine enough crude oil to service the needs of its people. this inability to refine crude is due to intentional ineptitude of government over the years.
